How do we use Pi? 

In Makerspaces and classrooms, students explore with hands-on activities that build awareness of STEM, coding, and computer technology. Activities are designed to give students immediate success as they rapidly explore physical science concepts and create inventions. They apply NGSS, Math and ELA concepts as they learn about the technology used in many types of real-world electronic devices.

CTE – STEM, Engineering, and IT programs.

In Middle School, the GrovePi sensors provide a plug and play environment where fundamentals of sensors and electronics are introduced. Students use Scratch programming to explore how each sensor operates and then create an invention such as a pet feeder or work on a science experiment such as a plant growth monitoring system or a weather monitoring system. 

High School students explore more in-depth electronics, sensors, and use Python programming. They also create their own inventions or science experiments. 

At both levels, students use Pi and the sensors to learn about computer systems, electronic devices, invent new things and apply the engineering design process.

Electronic devices include LEDs, switch, button, buzzer, LCD display, temperature and humidity sensor, light sensor, sound sensor, distance sensor, and more!  No soldering is required, all devices come with plug-in ports and cables to connect to the GrovePi board.

The GrovePi board connects to the Raspberry Pi board providing a seamless integration between the electronic devices and programming environment which controls them.

What is Pi and What does it do? 

Raspberry Pi is a low cost, credit-card sized computer that can control robots, enable exploration of Internet of Things (IOT) and introduce programming in languages like Scratch and Python. It’s capable of doing everything you’d expect a desktop computer to do, with Internet and WIFI communication capability.
Raspberry Pi has the ability to interact with devices and has been used in a wide array of digital maker projects, from music machines and parent detectors to weather stations and tweeting birdhouses with infra-red cameras. Raspberry Pi is being used by kids all over the world to learn to program and understand how computers and devices work.

Curriculum for Raspberry Pi Products

Our online curriculum includes videos, projects, step by step instructions, hands-on activities, worksheets, and assessments—applying CC Math, ELA, NG Science, ITEA and CTE standards.

Courses can be taught by Math, Science, Tech teachers, or Media Specialists. Students gain hands-on experience and conduct experiments to learn how IOT is used in industry and homes with real-world applications and coding.
We provide Teacher professional development and on-going technical support. Teachers learn not only about the technology but how to teach using project based learning methods and Internet technology.
