Lots of schools (and students) have Raspberry Pis but aren't doing much with them. We would like to help students turn those into Smart devices which can control lots of things.

Connecting sensors to the Internet of Things (IOT) has never been this easy! No need for soldering or breadboards: plug in your Grove sensors and start programming directly. GrovePi is an easy-to-use and modular system for hardware hacking with the Raspberry Pi and the Internet of Things.

The GrovePi is a system that connects over 100 Grove sensors and devices to the Raspberry Pi. GrovePi is an easy-to-use and modular system for hardware hacking with the Raspberry Pi. Grove is an easy to use collection of inexpensive plug-and-play modules that sense and control the physical world. By connecting Grove Sensors to the Raspberry Pi, we empower your Pi to connect to the physical world. With hundreds of sensors to choose from in the Grove collection, the possibilities for interaction are endless. GrovePi is about integrating Grove sensors and modules with the performance and ease of the Raspberry Pi.

Raspberry Pi and Scratch Coding Invention Curriculum

Grade Level: 6 to 10 (great for middle schools) - Physical Science or Inventing Course

Curriculum Duration:  Adaptable to a 10 week or 16 week plan with 1 to 3 hrs per day.  18 lessons provide 25 to 80 hours of instruction, with hands-on activities, worksheets, and two open ended projects and enrichment exercises that can be stretched.

Curriculum Description: Engage students in inventing and engineering design with fun hands-on projects using Scratch coding and the Raspberry Pi.  GrovePi devices are plug-in: no soldering. Students complete several projects as they learn coding and control the sensors and devices in the GrovePi kit. Physical science videos are also included to help meet NGSS standards.

Curriculum Resources Provided: 

For student self-directed learning: online lessons with 15 min activities, worksheets, videos, step by step instructions, handouts, vocabulary words, enrichment exercises, concept videos and links.  Teachers are provided a printed book, lesson plans, online lessons, answer keys, grading rubrics, handouts, and links to additional resources. 

Curriculum Materials:
Students in teams of 1 to 3, one per team: GrovePi Starter Kits, Laptop (or Keyboard, Mouse, Monitor) connected to Raspberry Pi, Small Screwdriver, Parts for building projects (lunch boxes or small plastic boxes, screws and other fasteners, paint, tape, and miscellaneous items). Optionally a separate tablet or computer for viewing lessons with Internet (only if school network will not allow Raspberry Pi computers).
